TA Script Theory 9
(Script is a self authored life plan written in early childhood. It governs the general course of a person's life. It is 'directed' to achieve a life goal or script payoff. )
"Words with special meaning are marked * in text and explained in Notes"

Becoming Script-free - 2.2

TA is in part a humanistic psychology. People are OK is an elaboration of this aspect of TA. I already have capacity and capability. It is latent. All I have to do is to recover it. What is stopping me from recovering is my reluctance to recognise its presence and capacity to recover it. This realisation is enough. TA also lays emphasis on existentialism. Say there is a fly on the tip of my nose. Who other than me can wave my hand and get rid of it. Or, I am thirsty. Who other than me can drink water to quench my thirst. Absolutely nobody. There is no saying "I will do, I will try, I will see" that will help. It starts with having esteem. Esteem is the presence of pride and admiration for being a person with specific capacities. Here it means the capacity for self responsibility. It means I rely on no one, no body, no thing. I only rely on myself. Conviction, commitment, determination and dedication automatically come to hand once this aspect of self responsibility is activated.

Two methods to become script-free have been mentioned in the previous blog. They were: Installing a Permissive Parent and an acquiescent Free Child. Please read it once before proceeding.

The other things necessary to implement the process are given here.
  • Installing an Empowered Adult. A Punitive Parent and a non-acquiescent Child together act to immobilise the Adult. Script bounded-ness is possible only with the aid of double contamination. This double contamination happens simultaneously in the PAC structure as well as in the P1-A1-C1 structure. [Students of TA are invited to read the last part of section D of Chapter Eight of the Hello Book] Script is possible with two forces working hand in hand. The power of Injunction and the power of the Provocation. Empowering the Adult is a continuous process. It is done by waiting, postponing, delaying and being patient in the face of urge, drive or impulse activation. I experience irritation and anger welling up when someone is holding traffic by stopping his car in the middle of the road to drop a passenger. There is a curse hyped mind talk in progress. I become aware of it. I take three deep breaths. I divert my attention and implement urge management process. Traffic starts moving. This is mentioned by Berne in fine print. It is one of the most important tenets of Script Cure. It is important to overcome irresistability. This is even more relevant when the impulse is driven by the 'demon'.*
  • Gaining the ability to separate person from behaviour. Accept, love, admire the person (like a mother does to her child) and ignore the behaviour. This means only love the person and do nothing. Blaming is not going to help other than making the person feel sad or guilty. If at all you have to say something use a different language. Instead of saying "sit nicely" say this "sitting decently expresses culture". By loving person we can also open doors for recognising and understanding everybody. Why so? Every person without exception is a victim of his or her nature.
  • Becoming non expecting. Expecting is the seed for blaming, finding fault, putting people on the hook. These qualities are expressions of script ridden-ness. I have the freedom to ask. This instead of relying on expecting. It overcomes the resulting sadness for not being cared or loved by being expecting.
