TA in Pills - 1-5.3 - TA Theory of Transactions 3

TA Theory of Transactions 3
(Transactions represent the need to interact with others.)
(for * see notes at end of this blog)

Special Types of Transactions:

Carrom Transactions: Carrom is a board game. A striker is used to net pieces. An expert player uses a side of the board or another piece when netting a piece. By so doing another or other pieces are positioned to be ready for netting. Similarly in a carrom transaction A says something to B, but it is meant for C or many others. They have an impacting effect in certain conditions. Hidden agenda or purpose is thus (knowingly or unknowingly, deliberately or unintentionally) serviced. Here are some examples to elaborate:

1) Mother is telling father as she is putting the child to sleep that he is not doing too well in math, science or some other subject; or that he has become too mischievous these days;  or that he brought something home from a neighbour's house; These statements get planted in the child's mind. The related behaviour increases. The child's mischievousness, or attention in studies, or the habit of bringing things may increase. Parents can use this phenomenon to boost the desirable qualities in their child. As an example to tell visitors when the child is within hearing distance that he/she is doing well in studies, though in reality that is not the case.

2) The VP of a company finds it difficult to tell a manager that his team is not performing well. So he calls in another manager and complains that some teams are not doing well. He also reprimands that some action is being considered in the regard. This is done with the intention of informing the manager concerned.

3) A coach tells a player how to hold the bat when in fact it is meant for another player who is reluctant to learn.

Bull's Eye Transactions: Bull's eye transactions address all three ego states simultaneously. Political leaders motivate their party workers in this way. This type of transaction is also used by sports coaches and restaurant managers to boost performance.  This type of transaction is also used in counselling sessions. The main transaction is A-A. But it also addresses P and C of the client. The P to install a value and C to comply with the process.

Gallows Transactions: Gallows transactions are used unawarely. They 'discount'* the effectiveness of a communication. A parent may reprimand his/her child and smile. A person may report a serious event such as a fall or failure and laugh it off. A line of praise of another may be accompanied by an inauthentic smile.
