TA in Pills - 1-3.4 - TA Theory of Personality 4
TA Theory of Personality 4
(We are victims of our nature. Nature is structured by activated personality structures.)
(for * see notes at end of this blog)
The previous blog 'click here' provides a method to build a robust, strong, effective personality.
We gain what is called 'social control' by having a well developed personality. We live in an environment in which we are either being manipulated by others, or we are ourselves manipulating others. We regret, feel bad, get angry, or become anxious because we either did wrong to another or some one else wronged us. Social Control is the 'latent'* capacity in each one of us which helps us to control the tendency to manipulate other people in destructive or wasteful ways. It also helps us to control the tendency in us to respond without insight or option to the manipulations of others. Assuming self-responsibility* for generating conscious awareness helps us to gain this capacity. A previous blog 'click here' explains terms related to awareness and consciousness.
Stimulus generating environments are within us. We ourselves also generate stimuli. Things, animals, plants, situations, problems difficulties, events, happenings, incidents generate stimuli too. Ego States get activated. We need to have predominantly Adult Ego State to be in charge to respond and deal with these stimuli in conscious awareness.
By having a well developed personality we can focus our attention on the here now. What does this mean? Our mind is usually not where our body is. By asking this question: "What is my mind presently occupied with?" or "Where is my mind now?" we will know for sure how our thinking faculty is hijacked by the aforesaid things. Conscious awareness gets us to shift attention from some vague area of mind occupation to an area, subject, matter of person that is more important.
There are three types of time. They are clock time, goal time and psychological time. A previous blog 'click here' explains them. Freedom from psychological time engagement helps to gain peace of mind.

Notes:
Non-Punitive: Non- punishing. This will be evident when we get ourselves to be conscious of our internal dialogues. What man. How did you make this mistake. This dialogue comes from an Punitive internal Parent. Doesn't matter. There is always another time. This dialogue comes from a Permissive internal Parent.
Latent: Hidden. Dormant meaning present but un-used.
Self-Responsibility: Taking up upon ourself instead of relying on others or waiting for someone else to help or rescue us.
